<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder position detector having a small and simple structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cylinder position detector includes: a magnetic response part arranged on the surface of piston rod, in a certain pattern which includes a segment with its area being gradually increased or decreased along a direction of linear stroke displacement on the surface of the piston rod; coils fixed on the cylinder body according to the magnetic response part, and excited with a single phase AC signal; an impedance means impressed with the AC signal; and an analog operation circuit for generating a plurality of AC output signals indicating respective amplitude performance different to the stroke position of the piston rod, wherein the voltages of the coils and the impedance means are respectively taken out. The corresponding area of magnetic response part to the coil is changed corresponding to the displacement of the linear stroke position of the piston rod, and the inductance of the coil is changed according to the change of the corresponding area, the voltage between both the ends of the coils are gradually increased or decreased according to the section where the corresponding area of the magnetic response part to the coil is gradually increased or decreased.
