PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for extrapolating an image through multi-fitting are provided to increase the visual satisfaction of a viewer by increasing output resolution based on the estimation of an external signal of an image with utmost signals. CONSTITUTION: A boundary-adjacent input signal extractor(110) extracts an input signal for an adjacent boundary of the input image by using an extension coefficient and an input image. A monotonicity decision unit(120) analyzes the input signal of extracted boundary vicinity, and judges the monotonicity through the analysis of the input signal. According to the determined monotonicity, a monotonicity preservation signal generator(130) generates the monotonicity preservation signal.
