PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate focus detection and correction, regardless of photographing conditions. SOLUTION: The camera system includes: a shake correcting part 16 for correcting a shake in an optical axis direction (focal shake); an acceleration detecting means 18 for detecting the shake in the optical axis direction based on the acceleration; and an optical detecting means 5 for optically detecting the shake in the optical axis direction. The focus shake is corrected based on a comparison between a value calculated from the focal length of a lens, a photographing magnification according to the object distance upon focusing and a shutter speed set in the camera, and a value defined by a permissible defocusing amount obtained from the diaphragm value of the lens and the diameter of a permissible circle of confusion.
