PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time up to starting feeding of a document, even when the number of documents to be placed is few, in a document feeding apparatus for feeding the document by lifting a document tray up to a feeding position. SOLUTION: Lifting of the document tray 30 is started in response to any pushing-down of a start key 406 and a key except for the start key while placing the document in the document tray 30. Any of a first mode of lifting the document tray 30 in response to the pushing-down of the start key 406 and a second mode of lifting the document tray 30 in response as well to the pushing-down of the key except for the start key, is also selected.
