<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image capturing apparatus and method capable of capturing a detailed image of a required portion only. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A double-lens camera 100 comprising a plurality of imaging units includes: a wide-angle imaging unit 1 having a lens of a wider angle of field than that of the other imaging units; a zoom imaging unit 2 turnably provided in the double-lens camera 100 while including a lens with a narrower angle of field and a greater scaling factor than that of the wide-angle imaging unit 1; a double-axis spherical actuator 3 for turning the zoom imaging unit 2; an image recognizing section 72 for detecting a partial image approximate to a template image from a wide-angle image captured by the wide-angle imaging unit 1; and an actuator control section 73 for controlling the double-axis spherical actuator 3 on the basis of positional information of the partial image in such a way that the zoom imaging unit 2 images a region corresponding to the partial image.
