PRODUCT AND PROCESS FOR TRANSFORMATION OF THRAUSTOCHYTRIALES MICROORGANISM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recombinant nucleic acid molecule comprising a selection marker useful for transformation of a microorganism of the order Thraustochytriales, and to develop a process for the transformation using the recombinant nucleic acid molecule.

SOLUTION: There are provided nucleic acid and amino acid sequences for acetolactate synthase, acetolactate synthase regulatory regions, α-tubulin promoter, a promoter derived from a Thraustochytriales polyketide synthase (PKS) system, and fatty acid desaturase promoter, each derived from a Thraustochytriales microorganism. Furthermore, there are provided a recombinant vector useful for the transformation of the Thraustochytriales microorganism, as well as the process for the transformation of the Thraustochytriales microorganism. The recombinant nucleic acid molecule can be used for the expression of foreign nucleic acid in the Thraustochytriales microorganism as well as for deletion, mutation, or inactivation of genes in the Thraustochytriales microorganism.
