<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor for reducing a work load, by automatically detecting looseness of a fastening screw for fastening an internal facing member to a handrail part, by being inserted from the step side. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An escalator 10 includes a detection unit 24 for detecting looseness of the fastening screw 23 for fixing an inside panel 18 and a skirt guard 19 to the handrail part 13. The detection unit 24 is composed of a lever part 28 rotatably supported by a support shaft 29 and having one end pressed by the screw shaft tip of the fastening screw 23, a detecting switch 26 including a detecting part 27 for detecting abutment of the other end of the lever part 28, and a compression spring 30 for energizing the lever part 28 in the direction for allowing the other end of the lever part 28 to abut on the detecting part 27. The fastening screw 23 presses one end of the lever part 28 so that the other end of the lever part 28 and the detecting part 27 separate against energizing force of the compression spring 30 when inserted up to a desired fastening position.
