<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insect trap which can silently kill an insect without producing a large sound such as an electric shock sound generated in electric shock insecticide, thus not giving unpleasantness to a user with the sound accompanied by the insect killing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This insect trap 1 includes an attracting source 2 for attracting insects, a helical spring material 3, a driving portion 4 for extending or contracting the spring material 3 to increase or decrease the pitch of the helical portion 32 of the spring material 3, and a housing 5 for receiving them. The spring material 3 is disposed between the attracting source 2 and an opening portion 51 disposed in the housing 5. Since the pitch of the helical portion 32 of the spring material 3 is increased or decreased, the helical portion 32 can catch and kill an insect B1 for mechanical insecticide.
