PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method for obtaining high image quality in a printed matter formed while saving energy, and an image obtained thereby. SOLUTION: The image forming method is a method through a toner holding treating process for holding a toner image formed of a toner particle containing at least a resin, onto a toner holding material layer formed on an image support base material, and a relational expression (1):1≥B/A≥0.9, and a relational expression (2):1.4≥C/D≥0.7 are satisfied when A is taken as a particle shape degree expressed by (the minimum diameter of a projection image/the maximum diameter of the projection image), as to the toner particle subjected to the holding treating process, B is taken as a particle shape degree expressed by (the minimum diameter of a projection image/the maximum diameter of the projection image), as to the toner particle after holding-treated, C is taken as a refractive index of the resin constituting the toner particle, and D as a refractive index of a material constituting the toner holding material layer.
