Hecogenin is prepared by separating the sediment from the liquid following fermentation of the juice of Agave sisalana, drying the sediment to a solid content of 90-100%, simultaneously or subsequently heating the sediment to temperatures of from 80 to 150 DEG C., preferably at 110 to 120 DEG C., for 8 to 15 hours, and thereafter converting the sediment in known manner into hecogenin. The above process may be modified in that following the initial separation of the sediment from the liquid, the sediment is first of all concentrated to a solid content of 12 to 20% and then is dried to a solid content of 95 to 100% while heating at 80 to 150 DEG C. (the concentration to a solid content of 12 to 20% may be carried out by centrifuging and/or bed-drying or trickling drying). |
