PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a recognizing method of the driving capacity thereof are provided to calculate the operation capacity of an outdoor unit by an outdoor control part without the changing of a setting capacity of an indoor control part. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises: an indoor unit; an outdoor unit which produces the operation amount of the outdoor unit while communicating with the indoor unit; an address setting unit(420) which establishes address information in order to solve the difference of the calculated operation amount and the real operation amount and sets the number of addresses; an indoor controller(410) which responds to an address check signal through the addresses which the number of the fixed addresses is set by the address setting part; and an outdoor controller(210) which transmits the address check signal to the indoor controller and produces the operation amount of the outdoor unit by using the number of the fixed addresses which is used so that the indoor controller responds to the address check signal.
