PARALLEL PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM FOR HOST VEHICLE, AND METHOD OF EVALUATING AREA USED AS PARKING SPACE FOR THE HOST VEHICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parallel parking assist system for a host vehicle and a method of evaluating an area used as a parking space for the host vehicle which provides a driver with an alert representing the suitability of a potential parking space while keeping the required number of sensors to a minimum.

SOLUTION: The parallel parking assist system includes an ultra wide band radar sensor disposed in the host vehicle wherein the radar sensor obtains measurement data relating to a potential parking space and transmits a data signal representing the measurement data; a processor is adapted to receive the transmitted data signal from the sensor, analyze the data signal, and transmit an alert signal according to the analysis of the data signal; a user interface is adapted to receive the alert signal and provides an alert to the driver of the host vehicle according to the alert signal; and the alert signal represents the suitability of the potential parking space.
