<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection image display which can maintain a heat-receiving part of the heat pipe lower, at all times, than its heat radiating part in the direction of gravity. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The projection image display 10 incorporates a light source 50, liquid crystal panels 55r, 55g, 55b, and a projection lens 59 inside the outer case 10a. A heat pipe 370, having a heat receiving and radiating parts, is provided for cooling the light source 50 or liquid crystal panels 55r, 55g, and 55b. The attitude of the heat pipe 370 is changed, depending on the installation of the projection image display 10 (on the floor or on the ceiling) so as to keep the heat-receiving part of the heat pipe 370 lower than its heat-radiating part in the direction of gravity.
