PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a drug exhibiting smooth inhibition of arthrodial cartilage extracellular matrix degradation. SOLUTION: The arthrodial cartilage extracellular matrix degradation inhibitor contains a histone deacetylase inhibitory compound such as depsipeptide compounds as an effective ingredient. The arthrodial cartilage extracellular matrix degradation inhibitor is useful for prevention and treatment of diseases and pathological conditions involving the degradation and degeneration of arthrodial cartilage extracellular matrix, particularly arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
