FRINGE-FIELD SWITCHING LIQUID CRYSTAL DEVICE USING BLUE PHASE LIQUID CRYSTAL

PURPOSE: A fringe field switching liquid crystal device using a blue phase liquid crystal is provided to use a liquid crystal with optically anisotropic characteristics, thereby providing a complete dark state during an initial dark state. CONSTITUTION: A transparent common electrode(1) is formed in a slit form. Pixel electrodes(2) of a slit form are formed with an insulating layer between the pixel electrodes. The distance between electrodes of a common electrode is smaller than the electrode width of the pixel electrode. A voltage is applied through a thin film transistor connected to the pixel electrode. A fringe field electric field is formed between a patterned common electrode and a patterned pixel electrode. A liquid crystal layer has optically anisotropic characteristics by applying a voltage.
