The drive has a drive motor arranged in a housing, where the drive motor is provided with a downstream spindle-spindle nut gear to generate linear drive movements, and with two connectors (5, 6) for diverting the drive movements. The housing includes an inner tube connected to one of the connectors. An outer tube is connected to the other connector and telescopically movable with respect to the inner tube. A connection between the outer tube and the corresponding connector is configured as a latch connection. An independent claim is also included for a method of mounting a spindle drive for an adjustment element of a motor vehicle.
