<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device, a character recognition method, a character recognition program and a recording medium for improving the precision of character recognition by preventing a recognized character string from being inappropriately replaced with a character string in a dictionary. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A character recognition part 12 recognizes a character string included in a recognition object document 10. A similarity calculation part 15 calculates similarity between a character string in an itemized correction dictionary 14 and classified character strings classified by an item classification part 13, and determines a similar character string showing the maximum value of similarity. A threshold calculation part 17 calculates a threshold showing a degree of whether or not there is high possibility that the character string included in the recognition object document 10 exists in the itemized correction dictionary based on the update dates and recognition dates of the same classification items. A correction control part 18 compares the maximum value of similarity with the threshold, and when the maximum value of similarity is equal to or more than the threshold, the classified character strings are replaced with the similar character strings, and when the maximum value of similarity is less than the threshold, the classified character strings are not replaced with the similar character strings.
