<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating apparatus suppressing a drop of local nip pressure of a pressure nip in the rotating direction of a pressure belt by accurately positioning the free end of a low friction sheet to a contact point between the pressure belt and a pressure roller. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pressure pad 110 formed by bonding an elastic layer 101 of silicone rubber to a base plate 102 and covering the surface with a protective film is mounted to a pressure base 103 of a pressing mechanism 100. A low friction sheet 106 disposed between the elastic layer 101 and the pressure belt 52 is formed to fix its upstream end to the pressure base 103 and to position its downstream free end to a contact point between a separating roller 56 and the pressure belt 52. A low friction sheet 107 disposed between the separating roller 56 and the pressure pad 110 is formed to fix its upstream end to the pressure base 103 and to allow its downstream free end to abut on the low friction sheet 106.
