PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst capable of exhibiting the capability of decomposing methanol at least several times as great as conventional catalysts, even at a temperature of 400°C or lower. SOLUTION: The catalyst for decomposing methanol to produce hydrogen includes nanoparticles of a Ni-Al intermetallic compound comprising at least one phase selected from a Ni<SB>3</SB>Al phase, a NiAl phase, a Ni phase, a NiO phase, and an Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>phase.
