PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a polarizing diffraction element allowing continuous production, superior in economical efficiency, and also superior in optical characteristics of the obtained polarizing diffraction element, and to provide the polarizing diffraction element obtained by the method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the polarizing diffraction element includes (I) a step of obtaining a member (b) by forming a pattern in which concave parts and convex parts are successively formed by transfer on at least one surface of a substrate (a) made of a transparent resin (A); (II) a step of obtaining a member (c) including a filled part by applying a composition including a compound (C) on the surface including the pattern of the member (b) and filling at least the recessed parts with the compound (C); and (III) a step of obtaining a member (d) by stretching the member (c). In the polarizing diffraction element, one of the part derived from the convex parts and the part derived from the filled part includes optical isotropy, and the other includes optical anisotropy.
