<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coolant leakage detection method capable of preventing battery exhaustion even when an ignition is off by suppressing battery power consumption of a vehicle without discomfort of occupants, quickly detecting coolant leakage by constantly carrying out monitoring for coolant leakage, and capable of detecting even slow leaking of a coolant. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the ignition IGN of the vehicle 11 is off, concentration of CO<SB>2</SB>being a coolant is measured every passage of a predetermined time by a CO<SB>2</SB>concentration sensor 14, a pressure of the coolant is intermittently measured by a pressure sensor 15 within the predetermined time tc1, and when the carbon dioxide concentration measured by the CO<SB>2</SB>sensor 14 reaches a predetermined concentration or more, or when the pressure of the coolant measured by the pressure sensor 15 is reduced by a predetermined amount from a pressure of the coolant measured the last time, it is determined that there is coolant leakage.
