<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zero point setting-based welding control method capable of achieving greater machining precision, controlling wear, loosening and damage of a machine tool, and executing efficient implementation of zero point setting. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A welding method includes involves setting a plate-shaped workpiece W and a nut N on a positioning pin 8 projecting upward through a through-hole 5h of a lower electrode 5, pressing the nut N from above to set the zero point of the positioning pin 8, and determining abnormality of the position of the nut N and abnormality of the equipment in accordance with this zero point. In the method, after setting the workpiece on the lower electrode 5, a cycle is automatically performed, which comprises a sequence of lowering the upper electrode 5, compressing the workpiece (energization), and releasing the compression.
