<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire attaining light weight, high speed durability, and flat spot property in addition to tire durability against separation and the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the pneumatic tire 1, a belt layer 4 is provided outside in the tire radial direction of a carcass 3 in a tread section 6, and a belt protecting layer 12 is provided outside in the tire radial direction of the belt layer 4. The belt protecting layer 12 is formed of a layer 5 covering an end 4a in the tire width direction of the belt layer 4, and a cord constituting the layer 5 is a single twist cord made of polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate with 900-1,200 dtex total fineness.
