The method involves evaluating surrounding state of a vehicle (2) for determining precipitation intensity and a precipitation amount on a roadway. The determined precipitation intensity and the amount of precipitation on the roadway are combined with a determined actual vehicle speed for determining light absorbing characteristics of wake turbulence that is formed behind the vehicle. Light intensity of lighting functions (32-38, 42-48) of vehicle rear lights (30, 40) is adjusted depending on the determined light absorbing characteristics. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for controlling a vehicle rear light.
