PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent or the use thereof for the production of a medicament for the treatment related to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the use of an endothelin receptor antagonist, or a pharmaceutical composition comprising an endothelin receptor antagonist and either pirfenidone or interferon-gamma, for the production of a medicament for the treatment of early stage idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Further embodiments of the present invention relate to the above-described use wherein the endothelin receptor antagonist is a dual endothelin receptor antagonist or a mixed endothelin receptor antagonist, and the above-described use wherein the endothelin receptor antagonist is a selective endothelin receptor antagonist that binds selectively to the ETA receptor.
