<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, capable of efficiently completing image reading operation of an original, while preventing the occurrence of color shift and distortion due to the vibration on the image obtained by reading the original. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the occurrence of vibration is detected, based on change in output signal of a paper feeding cassette insert/removing sensor 11, while an image reading part 3 is reading image from the original carried by an automatic original carrying device 2, a control part 50 stops image reading operation of the original by the image reading part 3 and turns over twice the original whose reading has been suspended, by consecutive operations with the automatic original carrying device 2, and then retransferring it to an image reading position, to restart the image reading operation of the original, of which the reading operation has been suspended, from the start.
