<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely control a stop position of an in-cylinder piston in an internal combustion engine having a piston balancer, using reciprocating movement of a balancer piston. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A stop position control system includes a balancer piston 48 which moves opposing an in-cylinder piston 14 disposed in a cylinder 12 of an internal combustion engine 10. The system also includes a balancer liner 50 having a bottom portion 50a which is closed upon insertion of the balancer piston 48. The system also includes an electromagnetic valve 56 which alternately opens and closes a balancer liner internal space 50b and an oil storage portion 34a in which oil for lubricating inside of the internal combustion engine 10 is stored. In the system, the electromagnetic valve 56 is closed in a state where the internal combustion engine 10 is in a stop operation and the electromagnetic valve 56 is opened, and if the in-cylinder piston 14 in the given cylinder 12 is positioned within a crank angle range near the intake bottom dead center.
