PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner having a reduced work cost for a piping work and a high operation efficiency, in which an existing pipe of an original air conditioner can be used, in replacement by an air conditioner using a refrigerant having high operating pressure, without exceeding the withstand pressure reference value of a pipe to be used. SOLUTION: A heat pump smaller in capacity than that of the replaced air conditioner is added to an existing pipe or heat source machine side, and operated in the same mode. In cooling operation, a condenser outlet is cooled to reduce the condensation temperature (pressure), and in heating operation, an evaporator inlet is heated to raise the evaporation temperature, whereby the pressure of the existing pipe part is reduced, and an efficient operation is also realized.
