A welding torch (1) (typically a GMAW torch) includes a through-torch fume extraction passage having a mouth (32) which, in use, is able to be positioned proximate to a weld being deposited on work to be welded, and an inner sleeve (34) and an outer sleeve (36) defining there between an annular passage for supply of a fume retention gas having a continuous annular outlet (46) facing outwards. The outlet has a configuration that, in use, directs gas orthogonally to the axis of the torch or at an angle of up to 30° to the orthogonal in the direction of the work being welded. The annular fume retention gas supply passage has a radially outward position relative to the fume extraction passage. There is at least one gas inlet to the annular fume retention gas supply passage. The annular fume retention gas supply passage contains a plurality of gas redistribution members (40). |
