PURPOSE: A color interpolation apparatus of a Bayer pattern for compensating an image exactly is provided to perform exact color interpolation by compensating the colors of the pixels in consideration of the various directionalities of the edge element. CONSTITUTION: A value determiner(12) decides edge decision threshold values which is used to decide the edges of each establishment region. An edge information operator(13) uses the pixel values of the pixels. The multi-direction pixel value the amount of change is produced. The edge information operation unit uses the multi-direction pixel value the amount of change and computes the edge information about each establishment region. An area decider(14) decides the kinds of the edges existing in each establishment region. A color interpolation operator applies the color interpolation filter to each establishment region.
