PURPOSE: A method for detecting a defective ring electrode of an image drum, a method for compensating a defect of the image drum, and an image forming apparatus using the same are provided to apply the same driving signal to defective ring electrodes in which short happens, thereby compensating a defect of the image drum. CONSTITUTION: Voltages are applied to each ring electrode(S110). Power currents for the applied voltages are monitored(S120). It is determined whether the ring electrodes to which the voltages are applied is short with other ring electrodes according to whether the power currents are changed(S130). Short between the ring electrodes and the drum body is detected by monitoring voltage levels generated in a drum body for the applied voltages.
