PURPOSE: A vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser is provided to obtain the optical characteristic, the electrical characteristic, and the reliability of the vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser by omitting a process for obtaining a polarization characteristic during an epitaxial growth process. CONSTITUTION: A central mesa pattern(110) is formed on one substrate. Lateral mesa patterns(120) are formed on both sides of the central mesa pattern. Light is emitted through an opened region of the central mesa pattern. A metal layer or an insulation material(112) covers on the lateral mesa patterns in order to prevent the emission of the light. The lateral mesa patterns affect the polarization characteristic of the emitted light from the central mesa pattern. |
