<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit for a projector apparatus which is advantageous in achieving thinning and miniaturization, and a projector apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A light source unit 12 includes a lamp 60, a reflector 62 and a lens 64. A reflection surface 66 of the reflector 62 extends on a virtual curved surface where a cross section including a center axis 6,602 presents elliptical shape. Two cut parts 68 obtained by cutting two reflection surface portions 66A opposed to each other together with a reflector portion 62A are formed on the reflector 62. Light quantities of all the emitted light emitted from the lamp 60 are defined as lamp light quantity QL1, light quantities of all the light incident on respective optical modulators 16R, 16G and 16B from the lens 64 are defined as incident light quantity QL2, and QL2/QL1 is defined as condensing efficiency E. Values of first and second focal lengths F1 and F2, and a distance ΔL between the lamp and the lens are set so that the condensing efficiency E may be within a range of an aimed value set in advance.
