<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for simply confirming the water tightness and the air tightness of an underground optical closure when the underground optical closure is assembled. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An air tightness tester 1 for the optical closure includes: a portable tester body 2; and a detector 3 provided at a tip of a cable 3a extended from the tester body, and moved and operated by one hand. A thermistor bridge circuit is built in the detector 3, and detects a test gas as a gas pressurized and sealed within the underground optical closure 9, having the thermal conductivity higher than air, and leaked from the optical closure 9. An announcement information outputting section is provided in the tester body 2 or the detector 4, and outputs announcement information when the test gas is detected.
