<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for evaluating a softened degree of a beverage container whose wall is swollen/wetted by moisture from outside. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for evaluating the container evaluates a rectangular pillar-shaped container being made up such that a paper wrapping material obtained by laminating a paper substrate with a resin layer and then forming a fold line is vertically sealed so as to be in a tubular form, and the tubular wrapping material is filled up with fluid food, sealed horizontally so as to be in a preform and folded along the fold line. The method is characterized by measuring a vertical length of a portion being wetted and softened externally by the moisture and appearing on each vertical ridgeline of the container, by calculating a ratio of the softened portion to the whole length of the vertical ridgeline based on a total value measured, and by evaluating the wetted/softened degree of the container due to the outside moisture.
