The method involves bringing a preform (10) into an immersion bath (2), where the preform comprises an opening. An interior side and outer side of the preform are used with a sterilization substance. The sterilized preform is transported from the immersion bath by a transport device (4) to a downstream dripping station (12) for drying and/or heating the sterilized preform. The sterilization substance is removed at the dripping station. The preform is pivoted to a time point of transportation along an axis, which stays perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the preform. An independent claim is also included for a device for sterilization of a box made of plastic, i.e. preform, comprising a transport device.
