<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology of accurately conveying a paper sheet irrespectively of a condition of the paper sheet or a paper sheet size. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A paper conveying device has a conveyance roller 31 conveying the paper sheet in a predetermined conveyance direction, a side guide setting a position in a direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction of the paper sheet conveyed on the conveyance roller 31, and a skew roller (36, etc.) conveying the paper sheet in a direction oblique to the conveyance direction towards the side guide. The paper conveying device includes a first conveyance guide 33 movable in the direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction, a line sensor 73 provided in part immovable in the direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction and detecting a position in the direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction of the paper sheet conveyed by the first conveyance guide 33, and a registering roller 27 setting the position in the direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction of the paper sheet conveyed on the first conveyance guide 33 based on a detection result of the line sensor 73 and conveying the paper sheet downstream in the conveyance direction.
