PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optimized hash encryption device and method of low electric power and low area capable of using selectively an SHA (secure hash algorithm)-1 and an SHA-256. SOLUTION: The hash encryption device has structure capable of providing all of SHA-1 hash computation and SHA-256 hash computation, generates a plurality of the first message data corresponding to a plurality of the first rounds, when performing the SHA-1 hash computation, and generates a plurality of the second message data corresponding to a plurality of the second rounds, when performing the SHA-256 hash computation, using one memory, the first one resister, a one exclusive OR computer, and one logical OR computer, calculates a message digest by the SHA-1 hash computation using the plurality of first message data in the SHA-1 hash computation, and calculates a message digest by the SHA-256 hash computation using the plurality of second message data when performing the SHA-256 hash computation.
