PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide strontium ranelate having an especially remarkable anti-osteoporosis character in treating and prophylaxis of bone disease. SOLUTION: Theα-crystalline form of strontium ranelate of formula (I) is characterized by its powder X-ray diffraction diagram and by a water content of from 22 to 24%, wherein the diagram is expressed by items of a ray position, a ray quantity, a ray range, a ray width in a half height, and a distance between faces. A pharmaceutical composition includes theα-crystalline form of the strontium ranelate combining one or more pharmaceutically acceptable, inactive and nontoxic carriers.
