PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory having reduced sticking of inclusions such as Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, and to provide a nozzle for continuous casting. SOLUTION: The refractory for a nozzle for continuous casting has a composition comprising SiO<SB>2</SB>, B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, CaO and R<SB>2</SB>O (R: Na, K, Li) by 1.0 to 8.0 mass% in total, comprising carbon by 20.0 to 34.5 mass%, and the balance consisting essentially of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, and in which mass ratio (CaO+R<SB>2</SB>O)/(SiO<SB>2</SB>+B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>) satisfies 0.5 to 2.0. The refractory 10 is arranged at a part or the whole of the face (the inner hole 11 of a nozzle for continuous casting) in contact with the molten steel of the nozzle for continuous casting.
