PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem or the like wherein when a chalcogen compound is used as a film like crystal, there is a method in which a metal film which consists of Cu, In or Ga is formed, and the metal film is processed with selenium, however there is a subject in membrane homogeneity or productivity; if there is a nanoparticle of CuIn<SB>x</SB>Ga<SB>1-x</SB>Se, a paste or the like containing it is applied in a film shape, and is calcinated to be able to prepare a highly homogeneous CuIn<SB>x</SB>Ga<SB>1-x</SB>Se film by a low cost, however such nanoparticles are not prepared, and moreover nanoparticles of CuIn<SB>x</SB>Ga<SB>1-x</SB>Se<SB>y</SB>S<SB>2-y</SB>(0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤2) are not prepared. SOLUTION: A metal compound powder consisting of a metal hydroxide and one or more sorts of metal oxides, and a reducing solvent are mixed, added with an element or a compound consisting of one or more sorts chosen from sulfur and selenium, to form a mixed solvent, the mixed solvent is heated at the temperature of 70-500°C to obtain a chalcogen compound powder having the average particle diameter (D<SB>TEM</SB>) of 60 nm or less.
