PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard motor suppressing wear of a rope without a heavy burden on a user in starting. SOLUTION: This outboard motor (outboard motor 1) includes: a rope reel 15 including a rope winding portion 15f wound with the rope 14 for starting an engine 2; a handle 12 attached to the end of the rope 14; a guide portion 131 guiding the rope 14 pulled out of the rope winding portion 15f by abutting on the rope 14; a cam plate 16 rotating a crankshaft 24 by being rotated in association with rotation of the rope reel 15; and a force accumulation spiral spring 17 accumulating rotational force of the rope reel 15 and transmitting the accumulated rotational force to the cam plate 16. The extending direction of the rope 14 between the rope winding portion 15f and the guide portion 131 is different from the extending direction of the rope 14 between the guide portion 131 and the handle 12.
