A mixing device (10) includes a housing (14), a motor (18) supported by the housing, and an agitator (30) operably coupled to the motor. The mixing device also includes a clamping mechanism (46) operable to secure the housing to an open end of a container (50). The clamping mechanism includes a backing member engageable with an interior surface of a container, and a movable clamping member (62) engageable with an exterior surface of the container, such that a wall (70) of the container may be grasped or secured between the backing member and the movable clamping member. The mixing device also includes an actuator coupled to the housing and movable between a first position in which the movable clamping member is biased to engage the exterior surface of the container, and a second position in which the movable clamping member is disengaged from the exterior surface of the container, against the bias of the clamping member.
