This aims to provide a fuel cell system capable of extending the execution time period of a high-potential avoiding control as long as possible thereby to suppress the degradation of a fuel cell. The fuel cell system comprises a fuel cell for generating an electric power when supplied with a reaction gas, a storage device for charging at least a portion of the electric power generated by the fuel cell, and a controller for controlling the run such that the output voltage of the fuel cell is limited as an upper limit by the high-potential avoiding voltage lower than the open-end voltage thereof. The controller sets the high-potential avoiding voltage variable according to the charge quantity (SOC) of the storage device. |
