<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vending machine efficiently detecting the face of a user by reducing the frequency of matching. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vending machine 10 includes a camera 30 for imaging a user and generating images. Images extracted by an image capture device 32 among the images output from the camera 30 are stored in a first buffer memory 34. Images corresponding to a predetermined time before an event among the images stored in the first buffer memory 34 are copied to a second buffer memory 36. A computer 38 reads the images stored in the second buffer memory 36 in the order opposite to a chronological order, and detects the face of the user from the read images by template matching. The computer 38 performs template matching in descending order of patch size, and terminates the template matching if the horizontal patch size is an A pixel or below or if the vertical patch size is a B pixel or below when the computer 38 detects the face.
