<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing needle which is easy to thread, hardly damages thread or cloth and prevents the passed thread from coming off. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A smooth prominence 3 is arranged on one side 1a near the needle head. A threading slit 2 which is opened in the side 1a on the side of the needle head of the prominence 3 and extends toward the needle head is formed. Both sides of the opening of the threading slit 2 are smoothly rounded. Protrusions 5 for preventing thread returning whose ends are inclined to be directed toward the back end are formed in a staggered manner on both sides of the threading slit 2 near the back end.
