The battery unit has cylindrical individual cells (2) e.g. lithium cell, arranged in a cuboid shaped cell block (1) in multiple rows. The block is inserted in a housing. Force distributing elements (3) are arranged at edge surfaces of the block, which is parallel to axes of the cells. An inwardly aligned side of each element lies at the cells and an opposite side of each element corresponds to a shape of the housing. A height of each element is smaller than a height of each cell. The cells include connections at a head side, where the connections are guided through a covering plate (6).
