The device has a brightness sensor for detecting an ambient brightness. A first-in-first-out memory is suitable and adjusted for storing multiple sensor values (A,B,C) of the brightness sensor. A control unit is suitable and adjusted to form an average value of sensor value stored in the first-in-first-out memory. The average value is compared with a maximum threshold and minimum threshold.
