The device has a magnetic field generating device (1) e.g. permanent magnet or ring magnet, and magnetic field detecting device (2) e.g. Hall sensor, fixedly arranged outside of a partial chamber (14) i.e. fluid-filled partial volume, of a chamber. A magnetic field changing device (4) e.g. tube, is movably arranged within the partial chamber, and is coupled with a movable element. The changing device changes a magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generating device based on movement of the element. The detecting device detects the change of magnetic field. An independent claim is also included for an electromagnet comprising a position detection device.
