<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for adaptively performing gamma correction in accordance with a state of a luminance change in a screen while suppressing processing from being complicated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: a multiplication processing section which defines a plurality of different regions in a screen as a target and integrates luminance values of pixels in a region for each region; characteristic adjusting means (luminance difference determining section 61, a gamma characteristic adjusting section 62) for combining a plurality of primary functions having respectively different inclinations on the basis of a calculated integrated value and adjusting gamma characteristics of a polygonal line approximated to a predetermined gamma curve; and a gamma correction circuit for performing gamma correction on an input signal while using the adjusted gamma characteristics.
